Elseth D. (Dotter) DeOld, 68, Fair Lawn Resident

FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Elseth D. (Dotter) DeOld, of Fair Lawn, died Sunday, July 3. She was 68.

Born and raised in Paterson, she had resided in Fair Lawn since 1971. 

She was a member of the Westside Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood and V.F.W. Post 281 Ladies Auxiliary of Fair Lawn. 

A graduate of Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing, she continued her education at Jersey City State College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and earned a master’s degree from Hunter College in New York City. 

A dedicated nursing professional, she was a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau and organized the Alzheimer’s Unit of the NJ Veterans Home at Paramus from the late 80s until 1992. She recently attended the 50th Reunion of Eastside High School Class of 1965 rekindling old friendships.

She enjoyed knitting, watching the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps, of whom she was a strong supporter, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Prior to retiring in 2000, she was a registered nurse with Home Care in Clifton for several years.

She was the wife of Louis DeOld; mother of Craig DeOld and his wife, Laura, and Pamela Anderson and her husband, Richard; grandmother of Colin, Sophie, John and Daniel; and sister of Jay Dotter and Jan Gomes.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn.
